Karate ni sente nashi
There is no first attack in Karate
 (Funakoshi Gichin)

The best strategy is to prevent or avoid a confrontation. " 空手に先手なし Karate ni sente nashi" means more than there is no first attack in Karate. By such as simple definition, a karate practitioner could simply wait for an attack and deliver a powerfully counter-attack. But the goal of being able to defend oneself is limited. Then we have to be patient as much as we can. Patience is the best. Patience is one of the most valuable virtues of life

In Buddhism, patience refers to not returning harm, rather than merely enduring a difficult situation. It is the ability to control one's emotions even when being criticized or attacked.  In verse 184 of the Dhammapada it is said that 'enduring patience is the highest austerity'.

But, patience has its limits. Take it too far, and it is cowardice. In Buddhism, patience (khanti) is one of the "perfections" that a bodhisattva trains in and practices to realize perfect enlightenment (bodhi).

A combat sport, or karate, is a competitive contact sport with one-on-one combat. Determining the winner depends on the particular contest's rules. Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Boxing, mixed martial arts, Bando, Kickboxing, and Taekwondo  are examples of combat sports.

True karate is this: that in daily life one's mind and body be trained and developed in a spirit of humility, and that in critical times, one be devoted utterly to the cause of justice.

Karate is a technique that permits one to defend himself with his bare hands and fists without weapons. Men, women, boys and girls can learn and practice in karate.
